The Gishwati Forest once thrived with diverse primate species, including chimpanzees and golden monkeys. Unfortunately, during the tragic genocide, displaced communities cleared large portions of the forest for subsistence farming, resulting in severe deforestation. By 2001, only 6 kilometers of native forest remained. Our coffee supports the restoration and preservation of this vital ecosystem by rewarding 700 organic farmers who practice sustainable land management. While this project is not yet carbon registered, Source Climate Change Coffee actively offsets the carbon footprint of Rwandan coffee production by balancing it with carbon credits from our Ugandan farmers.
