Lauand is the only woman to have participated in Grupo Ruptura a collective of artists that pioneered Concretism in Brazil which counted such luminaries as Waldemar Cordeiro Luiz Sacilotto Geraldo de Barros Lotar Charoux and Anatol Wladyslaw among its ranks. Lauand initially selftaught moved to So Paulo in the 1950s and encountered Concrete art while working at the 2nd Bienal Internacional.
