Voted one of England's 100 cultural icons in a project by the British Government's Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the early 7th century Sutton Hoo helmet is widely regarded as one of the most important Anglo-Saxon artefacts ever found. In fragments when unearthed, extant pieces of the iron and tinned copper alloy helmet have been painstakingly reassembled.
