SSV Jahn RegensburgThe SSV Jahn Regensburg is still the only club that has represented the Upper Palatinate in German professional football. Over turbulent early years, the club developed with the later German national goalkeeper Hans Jakob, to a permanent fixture in Bavarian football.When the Bundesliga was founded in 1963, the Jahn played in the Regionalliga Bayern until he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga for the first time in 1975.In 1996 they experienced the lowest point in the history of the club, when they were relegated to the fifth-tier Landesliga. Through a reconstruction, they rose to the 2003/04 season again in the 2nd Bundesliga, in which they could establish themselves, after some renewed descents and promotions. The SSV Jahn is known for its sympathetic fan scene and its great social commitment in the region.
