It is also important to aerate the compost heap regularly, for example by mixing the pile or emptying the composter to replenish it. Place the compost heap in a shady place. Make sure not to load the compost too heavily and to protect it from wind (risk of drying out) and rain (risk of leaching). 1.Spread the waste evenly over a thickness of 10 cm.
